Coed Cross Country

Team Information

Cross Country is a no cut running sport. Cross Country enjoyed participation by 130 student athletes last year. Athletes competed in 5k's on various terrain. All athletes are expected to attend all practices on weekdays and all meets. Exceptions can be made under certain circumstances (e.g., SAT testing), but please try to schedule testing on non-competition days. Schedule family trips and college visits around competitions. Saturday cross-country meets are in the morning, so you can fly out to visit a college that afternoon. You are excused from class 15 minutes before the bus leaves. Once school starts we meet in Heaven every weekday after school at 3:40 pm. Varsity will meet on Saturdays when we do not have meets, and all runners are welcome. October 2017 Head Coaches of the Month: Coaches Nell Rojas and Geo Tam
We have two amazing cross country head coaches at Boulder. Both are first-year coaches. They had the honor (or curse) of hosting one of the largest invites in the state (22 teams)! It was a great success.
They also coordinated a very successful CHSAA Regional, one week prior to the CHSAA State Championships. Boulder High qualified the boys and girls team to State! We had two top 10 teams:
  • Our Panther boys took 7.
  • Our Panther girls took 10.
Proving Boulder High Cross Country has a wonderful future under these two new coaches!

Geo Tam, Boys Cross Country Coach

Geo is a Boulder native and Boulder High graduate. After playing soccer for most of his life, Geo found a passion for running late in high school. He went on to compete for the University of Colorado in Track and Cross Country. In 2011 he began coaching Cross Country and Track for Boulder High and has stuck around since!

Lily Johnson, Assistant Cross Country Coach

A native of South America, Running Lilly Coaching owner Lilly Johnson has lived and run in Boulder for more than 16 years. She is the former owner and manager of Fleet Feet Sports, Boulder; a USATF Level 1 track and field coach; and a certified Nordic Walking North America instructor.

Ryan Lawrence, Assistant Cross Country Coach

Ryan Lawrence was born and raised in Boulder, and he began running as a freshman at Boulder High School back in 1999.  He went on to compete all 4 years in Cross Country and Track. He then attended the University of Colorado where he majored in Architecture. After graduating in 2008, the travel bug took Ryan to Taiwan, Australia, and a six-month stint working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean and Northern Europe. Outside of running, Ryan is a professional photographer and real estate agent. This is his first year as an assistant coach, and he is thrilled to be back coaching at his alma mater!
